I like it...It has an old school comic book feel to it.

I play the 4thy company and I love this picture. I made some decent models of Ventris and Pasianus but havent posted them on D.A. Yet

This is very beautiful. I recently read the story this scene seems to be from, and it's a very moving depiction of an utterly sad moment.

It's not flat, it's how it should be.

Great picture, man.

<stands up> Hi, my name is LadyPengwern, and I am a fangirl.

Been looking for a decent pic of Ventris since I read the Graham McNeill Ultramarines Trilogy years ago. This is so close as to be a lot like I imagined. Love it! Love the other goings on in the pic too.

Don't beat yourself up. A little more depth, in the form of more emotive shading, and flatness is a goner.

I see what you mean with it being a little flat. In this picture it might be that the shadows' depth doesnt match the highlights brightness. Try adding deeper shadows and it shouldnt look as flat.

Despite that, this is a absolutley brilliant pic. You've got real talent, sir.

Try to make things that are in the back, darker. Right now, both the ship and the marine are basically the same color blue, which I think could be causing the 'flatness' :)

I really like the coloring here, and how you've composed a moving scene - it looks like the marine is kneeling among the bodies of the fallen, and I like how the personality shows through. Maybe it's a little flat, like you said, but I still think it's a great picture.

As for the artwork being flat, it may be that you've given an equal value of lighting to the foreground, midground and background - sometimes that can really reduce the depth of a piece. Try messing around with line-weight as well for that illusion of distance. Hope that helps!
